That time again! And this time I hope to be able to provide examples. I do not know what was wrong with me last week; I didn't want to get anything done, even something fun and easy as a time-write. I will be doing better this week, though!
Something new this week; I normally use the generators at Seventh Sanctum. This week, however, I will take a couple characters from two custom generators at Generatorland, and providing two names from the Rinkworks generator site. These are pretty good sites; check them out!
Male Lead: Tadashi, The Air Faery; Sagaris Paladin of the West Tundra
Female Lead: Jh'tira: Good Princess with Slender build Porcelain skin Blonde hair Slender Silver eyes enjoys Functional Clothing Plain coronets
Villain: Sharalith: This brutal sorceror is motivated by power-lust. He uses demonology in his plots, always summoning demons of deception to achieve his goals. He suffers from a chronic medical condition.
McGuffin: The three pieces of the Foul Battle Lens
Setting: Fleet of Eternity
And, because I cannot for the life of me come up with any first lines, I will cheat and use the Seventh Sanctum idea generator. Have fun!
1: Setting: pirate. Theme: transformation/sudden gain-of-greatness story
2: Setting: high fantasy. Theme: race-to-the-finish/adventure story
3: Setting: high fantasy/sword-and-sorcery. Theme: treasure hunt/redemption story
(For those of you who, like me, had no idea what a sagaris is, it's a large axe.)
Got it done on time; getting it up was the problem.
ReplyDeleteThe Fleet of Eternity is one of the great mysteries of the age. No one knows who built it; no one knows who pilots it, or where its destination will be. No one who comes there ever knows how he came, or where he will go when he leaves.
Something that had never troubled Tadashi.
He stood, as usual, on the highest plinth available among the myriad ships; silent as a statue garbed in white leather and glittering chain mail. He rested his hands on the upturned hilt of his sagaris, his tricolor eyes misting over as he felt the air currents drifting around him.
At the bottom of the plinth, a graceful young woman tipped her head back, watching him. "Do you feel anything?" she called up anxiously.
"No," the paladin responded. Both his voice and his face were entirely free of emotion.
Not so Jh'tira. She fidgeted unhappily, looking away. "I'm sorry," she finally blurted. "We almost finished that business with the Battle Lens, and then--"
"You did nothing wrong." Tadashi looked down at her, his stoic visage softening. "You thought you were turning it over to me. How were you to know that Sharalith trucked in deception?"
"I should have known when he started coughing as hard as he did," she fretted. "The idea of saying an Air Faery was bothered by dry air! And I knew about his cough--I certainly heard it often enough when he took me prisoner two months ago!"
"The Lens broke," Tadashi said calmly. "When you realized your error and knocked it out of his hands, it broke into three pieces. He only has once piece, and if we can claim and destroy either of the other two, the Lens will be made permanently useless." He leaped off the plinth, his translucent cloak fluttering around him like wings, and landed on his feet. He gave Jh'tira a wan smile as he straightened. "And as thoroughly as these pieces have been hidden from me, Sharalith should have no small trouble in locating them again."
Jh'tira smiled weakly. "A-all right," she conceded. "I won't brood over it any longer."
"Brooding won't help," Tadashi agreed. He whirled his cloak over one arm and looked at the upper gallery. "Let's go find the others," he suggested.
